John Foster started his private law practice in Eastport, Maine in 1973. His primary areas of practice include real estate law, contracts, estate planning, and probate.

During the first two years of his career he worked for the Chicago Legal Aid Bureau, and for the next two years he managed the Pine Tree Legal Assistance office in Calais, Maine.
